Semester Examinations

4.4.1 Each course, with the exception of a project, shall normally be completed in the semester.

4.4.2 A final (end-of-semester) examination shall normally be required as a part of every course. An examination schedule for each course shall be published each semester.

4.4.3 The marks obtained in the (end-of-semester) examination shall contribute 70% of the grade for the course while continu­ous assessment contributes the remaining 30 (except for practi­cals or other courses which are assessed entirely by continuous assessment).

4.4.4 Time allotted to examination papers shall be as follows:

1- Credit Course – 1 hour

2- Credit Course – 2 hours

3 or 4-Credit Course – 2 to 3 hours

4.4.5 A candidate who fails to obtain a CGPA of 1.50 in the first two semester examinations shall be asked by the Head of the institution to withdraw from the institution. He/she may, how­ever, resit the whole examination in the following year only.

4.5.1 STUDENT IN GOOD STANDING

4.5.2 A student in good standing shall be one whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is at least 1.50 (Grade C).

4.6.1 DEFERMENT OF EXAMINATION

4.6.2 On Grounds of Ill-Health: A student who has satisfied all the requirements as specified in Section 10, but, is unable to take the main (end-of-semester) examination on grounds of ill health shall, on application to the head of institution and on provision of a Medical Certificate issued or endorsed by a qual­ified medical officer in government service, be allowed to defer the semester examinations and shall be allowed to take them at the next offering. Subsequent application for deferment, on grounds of ill -health, shall be subject to a Medical Certification NURSING & MIDWIFERY TRAINING COLLEGE. issued by a properly constituted Medical Board.

4.6.3 On grounds other than ill-health: In case of deferment on grounds other than ill-health the Head of institution shall invite the applicant for an interview and advise the institution as ap­propriately. It shall be the student’s responsibility to satisfy the institution beyond reasonable doubt why he/she wishes to defer the examinations.

4.6.4 In all cases of deferment of examinations, the applicant(s) shall obtain written response from the Head of institution before leaving the institution.

4.7.1 DECLARATION OF RESULT Results of semester examinations taken at the end of each se­mester shall normally be published before the commencement of the next semester. A result slip indicating the student’s performance in the exami­nation shall be made available to the student.

5.1 A student shall be deemed to have passed the requisite courses in the three-year diploma course; the minimum credits required for graduation shall be 72.

5.2 Distinction

i. A diploma of the institution may by awarded with distinction.

ii. Distinction refers to performance which averages grade, or a final.

EXAMINATION RULES AND REGULATIONS

The following guidelines will govern the conduct of all examina­tions at the NMT College. It is the duty of all concerned to acquaint themselves with these Rules and Regulations:

1.1 Qualifying to write an examination

A candidate shall qualify to write an Examination if:

1.2 He/she has registered and has followed the approved course as a regular student. Also he/she must not have absented him­self/herself for more than the equivalent of three weeks contact hours for the course, or 40% attendance in any course.

1.3 He/she has continuous assessment marks for relevant subject areas:

1.4 He/she is not under suspension from the institution

1.5 If he/she has paid up for all examinations, messing and for any other fees for the period.

2.1 Examination rooms and seating arrangements

2.2 The examination will take place at approved venues indi­cated on the Time-Table. It shall be the duty of the candidate to consult the Time-Table and ascertain the papers to be written.

2.3 The students will be spaced out adequately in the examination room.

3.1 Entering and leaving the examination

3.2 A candidate should make himself/herself available at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the commence­ment of the examination.

3.3 A candidate may not be allowed to write an examination if he/she reports to the Examination room 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination.

3.4 A candidate who arrives after the examination has started will NOT be given extra time to complete the paper.

A candidate shall not bring to the examination room any book, papers, written information or any other unauthorized material. No bags, MOBILE/CELL PHONES, ORGANISERS, programma­ble calculators are to be taken into the examination room. No student shall enter the examination room until he/she is invited or called and/or requested to enter.

A candidate who is suspected of hiding unauthorized material on his/her person may be asked by the invigilator to submit him/herself to a body search. Refusal to comply shall constitute an examination offence.

3.5 Candidates may leave the examination room temporarily with the permission of the invigilator. In such a case, the invigi­lator will be required to certify that the candidates do not carry on them any unauthorized material. An attendant appointed by the invigilator will accompany a candidate who is allowed to leave the examination room temporarily.

3.6 A candidate should spend a minimum of 30 minutes in the examination room before the submission of the examination scripts. Similarly, no candidate shall be permitted to leave the examination room during the last 15 minutes of the examina­tion.

3.6 A candidate who completes an examination ahead of time and intends to leave the examination room shall draw the atten­tion of the invigilator/invigilation assistant who shall collect the candidate’s answer books before he/she is permitted to leave.

4.0 PROCEDURES DURING THE EXAMINATION 4.1 Candidates must ensure that they sign the examination at­tendance sheet. On receipt of answer books, candidates should carefully read the instructions on the front cover of the answer books and enter their index numbers and other details as re­quired.

4.2 No part of the answer book may be torn and all used answer books must be left on the table. Rough work must be done in the answer books and should be crossed out to show that it is not part of the answer.

4.3 It shall be the candidate’s responsibility to provide for them­selves such materials as a pen, a pencil, an eraser, a ruler and a calculator for the examination. Borrowing of these materi­als will not be allowed. Candidates are to ensure that they are given the right question paper and other material(s) needed for the examination.

4.4 Under no circumstances should a candidate write his/her name on any part of the answer book provided. Candidates are required to use only their index numbers throughout the ex­amination period. Unless otherwise instructed, candidates are to sit according to their index numbers for all written papers.

4.5 There should be no verbal or any other form of communica­tion between candidates during the period of the examination.

4.6 Candidates will be told by the invigilator(s) when to start an­swering the questions. Candidates would be allowed a reading time to check that the question paper is the correct one and that.

all questions are readable and there are no missing pages.

4.7 As soon as the ‘Stop Work’ order is announced, candidates are to STOP writing. Candidates should remain seated for their answer books to be collected by the invigilator/invigilation assis­tant before they leave the examination room. Candidates have personal responsibility for ensuring that their answer books are collected by the invigilator/invigilation assistant.

4.8 Candidates caught in exam malpractice will be demoted or summarily dismissed depending on the seriousness of the mal­practice.
