PROGRAMME
Admission to the RGN programme is without prejudice to creed, race or gender, provided the aspiring candidate, male or female, has:
a) SSCE/WASSCE with passes in the following:
3 Core Subjects (Grade D or better/Al — C6)
English Language
Mathematics
Integrated Science
3 Elective Subjects (Grade D or better/Al — C6)
General Science
General Arts
Home Economics (Food and Nutrition)
General Agriculture with Chemistry or Physics An aggregate score of twenty-four (24) or better. In addition to the above listed, the candidate must:
a) Be at least 1 8 years but not more than 35 years old.
b) Have no criminal record
c) Be of good health
d) Pass a selection interview
RM PROGRAMME
The RM programme is a Diploma programme open to only female students. The department admits applicants from all cultures, social or ethnic groups irrespective of religious background, provided the aspiring candidate has:
a. SSCE/WASSCE with passes in the following:
3 Core Subjects (Grade D or better/Al — C6)
English Language ‘Mathematics
Elective Subjects and minimum grade:
At least passes (i.e. A — E in SSCE) or (Al — E8 in WASSCE) in 3 subjects in any of the following:
General Science
General Arts
Home Economics (Food and Nutrition)
General Agriculture with Chemistry or Physics
Most students (Ghanaians) are on Government Scholarship and receive monthly allowance while in training. Such students enter a bond to serve the Ghana Government for a minimum of five (5) years after training. Other students are sponsored by other bodies.
However, all students pay some fees towards books and stationery, feeding and maintenance of infrastructure. The college also admits, for training, foreign students who qualify; such students pay full fees.
ACADEMIC SESSION
Academic Session comprises two semesters in a year.
First semester — October to February Second semester — April to August
STRUCTURE OF SEMESTER
A semester shall be of 18 weeks duration and shall be structured as follows:
1 2 weeks of Teaching 3 weeks of Clinical Practice
1 week revision
2 weeks of Examination
Students are required to have clinical experience during the vacation of the first to the fifth semesters. Four weeks of this period shall be for night duty.
COURSE CREDIT
One (1) course credit shall be defined as follows:
One hour lecture
One hour tutorial or
One practical session of 6 hours field work
Students are expected to make 85% attendance before they are allowed to sit the Licensure examination.
